Lalopalooza: Celebrating 100 Years of the Father of Chicano Music, Tucson’s Own Lalo Guerrero

(Tucson, AZ) — — Tucson Federal Cooperative credit union as well as KXCI present Lalopalooza on Friday, December 9th at El Gambling enterprise Ballroom as we commemorate the upcoming 100th Wedding anniversary of famous Tucson Born Musician Lalo Guerrero who was born upon December 24th, 1916.

With Lalopalooza, we commemorate the wonderful life and also work of the papa of Chicano Music– Lalo Guerrero– a respected composer, musician, comic as well as inspiration to all. We also commemorate KXCI Area Radio’s 33rd Anniversary (having gone on the air on December 6, 1983.)

KXCI Sabor Del Barrio host Pepe Galvez and also mariachi historian Daniel Buckley have assisted to curate a night of songs and also memories celebrating the heritage of Lalo Guerrero. Lalo Guerrero taped three songs on the 2005 release Chávez Ravine: A Document by Ry Cooder; which was the twelfth workshop cd by Ry Cooder. It informs the tale of Chávez Abyss, a Mexican-American area destroyed in the 1950s to construct public real estate, which instead became Dodger Arena. Ry worked together with Lalo on those recordings in addition to with Ersi Arvizu, an East L.A. vocalist that had hits with ’70s band El Chicano.
